RELATION BETWEEN ADJECTIVE AND VERB
The Adjective and the Verb are two separate Parts of Speech, each with its own nature and functions.
The Adjective is the Part of Speech which modifies a Noun, telling us something about the nature, quality or quantity of that Noun, e.g.
1. honest man
2. green car
3. six books
4. a little milk
The Verb is the Part of Speech that shows action, state or existence.
1. He is a doctor
2. He works in a hospital
3. I am reading a poem
The Adjective and the Verb are related in several ways. Sometimes the Present or Past Participle form of a Verb acts as an Adjective. e.g.
1. broken chair
2. interesting story
3. sworn enemy
4. calling card
5. crowded room
6. controlled action
7. reading room
8. alarming increase
Several important and interesting Sentence Structures are formed by a special combination of Verb and Adjective as shown in the examples given below.
1. The more you read the better you write
2. The harder he worked the more money he earned
3. He is getting weaker and weaker day by day
4. I have never seen a better book of grammar
Adjective + Infinitive:-
1. It is easy to answer this question.
2. It is impossible to cross the river without a boat.
3. It was difficult to agree with him.
In the same way we can also say.
1. It was very kind of you to help me.
2. It was foolish (of him) to leave his car unlocked.
3. It would be better to wait a little longer.
4. It is dangerous to get off a moving train.
5. I am delighted to see you
6. We were disappointed to see the poor result.
